PARKS DEPARTMENT
The Parks Department maintains facilities at twelve locations throughout the Township. There are 131.2 acres of developed park and playground land, and 34.62 acres of currently undeveloped land, for a total of 165.82 acres of park lands maintained by the Township.
Two large facilities serve as regional parks: the Lower Allen Community Park (LACP) on Lisburn Road and Vernon C. Wass Park on Wesley Drive. A Master Site Plan for the Lower Allen Community Park was completed and accepted by the Board of Commissioners in August, 2005; click here to view the LACP Master Site Plan.
Parks located within neighborhoods:
Highland Park Playfield, on Chatham Road
Highland Estates Playfield, on Letchworth Drive
Allendale Park, on Deerfield Road
Peter's Field, on Gettysburg Road
Beacon Hill Park, on Capitol View Drive
Sheepford Crossing Park, on Argali Lane
There are four areas of park land that are currently undeveloped:
Yellow Breeches Park, 14 acres on Sheepford Road adjacent to Yellow Breeches Creek.
Beacon Hill Land, 7 acres on Beacon Hill Boulevard at Poplar Avenue, adjacent to Yellow Breeches Creek.
Creekwood Area, 5.6 acres at the east end of Creekwood Drive, adjacent to Yellow Breeches Creek.
Former Radar Site, on Beacon Hill, 8.02 acres recently donated to the Township by the U.S. Government.
A message from the Lower Allen Township Recreation & Parks Board...the Recreation and Parks Board is considered an advisory board, in that it makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. The Board, comprised of a maximum of 7 members, works closely with township staff to continually promote and improve the parks system.
You can help build a healthier and happier community! We always need additional members and volunteers interested in serving the community by joining the Recreation and Parks Board. Residents are welcome to attend our meetings. Meetings are held at 7:00 pm each 4th Wednesday of the month and take place at the Township Building, at 2233 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill.
